I told my mother I went to the NYC Women’s March yesterday, which she apparently knew nothing about, and when I mentioned it was for women’s rights, she replied with, “Oh come on!”  I said that it is my first amendment right to free speech and to assemble, which is what I did, along with 500,000 other people.

Later, she came to my room to apologize for her reaction and said, “You’re right.  You have the right to stand up for what you believe in and I can respect that you gave up your Saturday to speak up for something that’s important to you.  Even though we’re not on the same side of the aisle on this.”

Progress?
