How to Say ‘Thank You’ In Europe with Etymology

It’s worth noting a few points about this map.

•  There are many different ways of saying ‘thank you’ in any given language. English alone has ‘thank you’ and ‘thanks’. Languages like Dutch have a different phrase for if the person you are thanking is familiar with you [dank je, dank u, bedankt]
• The ‘thank you’ shown on the map refers to thanking one person. Languages like Irish have separate words for if more than one person is doing the thanking [go raibh maith agat/ go raibh maith agaibh]
